Portraits In The Park

This short video is the result of a wonderful kids portrait session in the park at Shelby Farms. What a great day! Wonderful people to photograph, beautiful colors and light, and the weather was simply fantastic! These three sisters had so much fun just being themselves and playing at being models for an afternoon – they all agreed afterwards that they had way more fun than they were expecting, which is a real compliment.

For me, I had a truly great time, and enjoyed creating every one of these photographs – one of the amazing things that makes being a photographer so rewarding.

The fall colors are still here, so call today to schedule your own fun portraits in the park session!

Katie, Abby & Wendy – Botanic Gardens Portraits

We had a really fun time at the Memphis Botanic Gardens with Wendy, Katie & Abby, creating a wonderful series of portraits of these three friends.

The weather was perfect, although hot at times, so we concentrated on areas where we could find some good shade for the portraits.

This particular photograph was taken near the prehistoric trail in one of the wooded areas of the botanic gardens – some nice shade, but the bugs obviously liked the cooler area too!

Thank you to the three girls for making the session so much fun and I know you will be thrilled when you get to see the rest of the images in their final finished forms.

You can see more of the images from this portrait session in my Facebook Album - Portraits – Katie, Abby & Wendy.

If you would like a similar session in the Memphis Botanic Gardens, or another favorite location, please feel free to email for information or call me directly at (901) 606-9105.

Sunset Portrait – Harbortown, Memphis

A portrait of Wendy, taken on the banks of the Mississippi River in Harbortown, Memphis, TN. The photograph was taken just a couple of minutes before sunset at the end of a beautiful day. Harbortown and the greenbelt river park are great locations for almost any kind of portrait session – from children to seniors, or families.

For this particular photograph, we balanced the setting sun and the bright reflections in the Mississippi river with am off-camera flash, to create this dramatic portrait.

Canvas Wall Portraits as Home Decor

I am often asked what are the best products to display portraits, and my answer is always the same – canvas wall portraits. Without a doubt, these are the single most amazing way to display your cherished family portraits, children portraits or senior portraits, and they come in a huge variety of shapes and sizes.

Canvas wall portraits are so much more visible and have a lot more impact than the standard 8 x 10 that has been around for so long now, and which almost invariably end up in a drawer somewhere.

Because the canvas portraits I use are all in the gallery-wrap style, they come ready to hang – either unframed, or in one of the new incredible floating frames. Every time you look at your portraits, you will clearly see the love, warmth and devotion of your family.

As with everything I do, all portraits are 100% guaranteed and will give you and your family pleasure for a lifetime.

Memorial Day – Big Hill Pond State Park

On Memorial Day, 2009, we took a late afternoon trip to Big Hill Pond State Park, near Pocahontas, TN. Although the weather called for intermittent thunderstorms and showers, we were very lucky and managed to avoid most of the rain.

This was our first visit to the park and we loved it there, so definitely a place for us to go back to again. The visitor center was closed when we arrived so we decided to take one of the trails to see where it went. After meandering through the wooded hillsides for a while, the trail came to a long boardwak through the oddly-named Dismal Swamp. There were a lot of bugs out at this time of day, so I would advise bringing plenty of bug spray, and to especially watch out for ticks, which seemed to be in abundance!

After returning to the car, we took a short drive down to the lake side and we spent some time creating some fun photographs of Wendy and Amy, who seemed to be having a good time:

All in all, we had a great time and I can certainly recommend Big Hill Pond State Park for a family day out, camping, fishing, hiking and a host of other activities.

Bridal Portraits

There is little doubt that bridal portraits are one of the most important aspects of any wedding. This is why I like to spend the time several weeks before the wedding day to make sure we’re able to create a set of elegant portraits in a beautiful setting, on a day when the weather and light are both perfect.

Having your bridal portraits created on the wedding day itself is less than ideal – we have no guarantee that the weather will be suitable, the wedding location may not be the prettiest setting and the added pressures of the wedding day don’t allow you to relax as easily.

A separate bridal portrait session is also a great opportunity to practice putting on the gown & veil and it can help to highlight any areas that might need some adjustment prior to the wedding day.

Engagement Portraits – Andrea & Tom

Engagement portrait of Andrea & Tom, taken at Peabody Place, Memphis

We spent a wonderful afternoon on Sunday March 22nd 2009 in downtown Memphis with Andrea and Tom, on their engagement portrait session. Their wedding is on August 22nd 2009 in Colorado, but they really wanted some engagement portraits taken here in Memphis where they both live.

What a great day it was for photography – the weather was perfect and we found some great locations that really brought out their personalities and highlighted their relationship.

We spent about 3 hours downtown in such great places as Beale Street, Peabody Place, South Main etc. including a short trolley ride. The trolley driver even allowed us about 10 minutes to take some portraits on the trolley at the end of its run, which was a real bonus.

We finished up with some relaxed portraits down by the river as the sun started to go down.

Many thanks to Andrea and Tom for giving us the opportunity to work with them – it was a really fun afternoon.
