Senior Portrait 2009 – Anne

Golf-Themed Senior Portraits:

We were thrilled to be able to spend time with Anne at the Windyke Country Club golf course in Germantown TN last week, where we created a series of golf-related senior portraits for her. Our thanks go out to both Anne and the Windyke Country Club for allowing us the privilege of working there.

It was a great pleasure working with Anne on these portraits and I look forward to working with her again on part 2 of her senior portraits – in an urban setting.

More portraits of Anne can be found in my Senior Portraits 2009 album on Facebook.

Wedding – Amy & Jason – Memphis TN

Amy and Jason, photographed here during their engagement portrait session at the Memphis Botanic Gardens, are getting married today, June 27th 2009, in Memphis TN.

I really enjoyed creating their engagement portraits for them, and it was great to get to know them ahead of their wedding day.

The ceremony is going to be at the Embury United Methodist Church, in Millington TN – not far from Shelby Forest. I’m really looking forward to it and I wish them both all the happiness in the world for a long life together.

Senior Portrait 2009 – Kelsey

Senior Portraits 2009 – Kelsey:

I am so pleased to post this latest senior portrait, of Kelsey. She was amazing to work with and the whole session was exciting and so much fun for everyone.

As with all of our senior portraits, we held the portrait session outdoors in an environment that was both familiar and important to Kelsey.

We spent almost 3 hours creating portraits in different settings and in a variety of outfits, starting out with one of her horses as a companion in the photographs. We also photographed her with her younger brother, and created some wonderful images that I know the family will be thrilled with.

Working in a relaxed manner with no time constraints really allows our subjects to be themselves, leaving them free to concentrate on having a fun time.

You can see more images from this session in my Facebook album – Seniors 2009.

Sunrise Mist Through Trees

When I got up and looked outside at 6:15am this morning, I had to fetch my camera and go outside to photograph this lovely sight of the rising sun shining through the morning mist and nearby trees.

Despite being attacked by early morning bugs, it was worth the effort.

Evening Summer Storm Clouds

After a sweltering, hot day in June 2009, just before sunset, a lone rainstorm sprang up and provided some much-needed rain and cooling temperatures.

When the storm had passed by, the sky put on this beautiful display of towering clouds illuminated by the rays of the setting sun.

Before the light faded completely, I was able to grab my camera and capture several images.

This one shown here is perhaps my favorite from this set - I really love the range of colors and the smaller clouds at the bottom of the photograph that were marching west to east with the rest of the storm.

  • Camera: Nikon D200
  • Lens: Nikon 24-85mm at 62mm
  • Exposure: ISO 100 – 1/160s – f/8

More images from this set can be found in my Facebook Album – Alternative Projects.

Erin & Joe – Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Wedding

Erin & Joe were married on June 20th at the Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception on Central Avenue in Memphis, TN.

Here they are enjoying their first dance together at their wedding reception, which was held at the Germantown Athletic Club.

The wedding was really fun and we thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this very special day. Everything was perfect – from the setting of the Cathedral to the beautiful reception.

After the wedding, we had several hours to visit downtown Memphis as well as creating some great photographs in the picturesque setting of Rhodes College.

More photographs from the event can be found in my Facebook album – Wedding – Erin & Joe.

Thank you to Erin & Joe and the Lawton and Seboldt families for making this a joy to work on.

Katie, Abby & Wendy – Botanic Gardens Portraits

We had a really fun time at the Memphis Botanic Gardens with Wendy, Katie & Abby, creating a wonderful series of portraits of these three friends.

The weather was perfect, although hot at times, so we concentrated on areas where we could find some good shade for the portraits.

This particular photograph was taken near the prehistoric trail in one of the wooded areas of the botanic gardens – some nice shade, but the bugs obviously liked the cooler area too!

Thank you to the three girls for making the session so much fun and I know you will be thrilled when you get to see the rest of the images in their final finished forms.

You can see more of the images from this portrait session in my Facebook Album - Portraits – Katie, Abby & Wendy.

If you would like a similar session in the Memphis Botanic Gardens, or another favorite location, please feel free to email for information or call me directly at (901) 606-9105.

Erin & Joe – Wedding Rehearsal Dinner

Today, June 20th 2009, is finally here for Erin & Joe – their long-awaited wedding day! I am so excited for them and really looking forward to working with them today on their wedding at the Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception in Memphis.

Last night was the wedding rehearsal and it was nice to meet everyone who will be involved in the wedding party and take the time to introduce myself. This is often one of the things that many photographers overlook, but it really helps to ensure that everything goes more smoothly on the wedding day.

Thank you to Erin and Joe and their families for including me in their celebrations and I’m thrilled to be able to capture your wedding today.

Wolf River Wind Ensemble – Concert, June 2009

If you haven’t yet experienced the amazing musical talents of conductor William Langley and his orchestras, then I urge you to make sure you catch their next concert (I believe the next one is in the fall).

Last night we were treated to the Inaugural Concert of the Wolf River Wind Ensemble in the CBHS auditorium, with the following wonderful pieces:

  • The Battle of Shiloh – C.L. Barnhouse
  • First Suite in Eb – Gustav Holst
  • Salvation is Created – Pavel Tschesnokoff
  • 650 East – Wayne Oldham & Jack Hale
  • Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna – Franz von Suppe

The Wolf River Wind Ensemble is a group of 30 talented musicians of all ages, brought together by William Langley, the music director. The wind ensemble was originally formed by Mr. Langley for the purpose of educational outreach in inner-city Memphis schools. What I find particularly amazing and inspiring is that William just graduated in 2009 from Christian Brothers High School – and forming orchestras of this level of excellence and size are incredible achievements for someone so young.

I am very proud and honored to photograph and document the progress of the Wolf River Wind Ensemble and William’s other projects like the Wolf River Chamber Orchestra, and I hope you will be able to attend future concerts.
